Gannet Photography Workshops
The RSPB reserve of Troup Head is located on the North East cost of Scotland and is an absolute hidden gem.
On most of the trips I've been there I've had the place to myself, so if you would like a relaxed and informal day of Gannet and seabird photography this is the place for you. Another major plus point is that as it's on the mainland, there are no boat trips or ferries to be cancelled.
The stars are the show are undoubtedly the Gannets, and close encounters are the norm, on windy days when they are flying at eye level its not uncommon for them to whizz past you to within a few metres. As well as flight shots there are ample opportunities to capture many different styles of images. Courtship, mating, feeding, brooding and fighting to name a few.
As the season progresses there will be opportunities to photograph the Googers (Scottish name for Juv. Gannet)
This image was of a young bird nestled into its parents, taken at a range of about three metres.
In addition to the Gannets there are also Guillemots, Razorbills, Fulmars, Kittiwakes and even the occasional Puffin to keep you entertained. On the day as well as being on hand to help with any technical assistance, I would guide you to the very best vantage points to ensure you capture the best possible images.
This is a cliff top location, there are no fences. if you have an acute fear of heights, this isn't for you. If you just feel uncomfortable with heights we can work to accommodate that sense of uneasiness. If you would rather discuss this over this telephone please do not hesitate to call me for a chat and guidance.
