Itinerary:
Day 1: Sunday
Arrival day - We will all rendezvous at the accommodation at 18:00.
The accommodation is a well appointed house conveniently located for both Otter photography and the White-tailed Eagle boat trips.
All rooms have en-suite facilities.
Day 2: Monday
Today we will dedicate the whole day in search of the elusive and shy otter. It is highly unusual not to have multiple sightings of otters during a day on Mull. Whether the 'planets align' and these manifest into 'good' photographic opportunities is down to skill and luck in equal measure. Andy has almost a decade of experience observing and photographing otters on Mull and has an extensive knowledge of their behaviour.
Day 3: Tuesday
This morning will be the first of three private boat trips with Martin and Alex of Mull charters, I’ve been working with these guys for many years and always look forward to a trip with them. Over the years the eagles have gotten to know their boat and will confidently swoop down and gab a fish to within 20m of the boat, a 100-400mm (or similar) lens will suffice for this element of the trip. There may even be an opportunity to look for dolphins if there are any in the area.
Having just three guests on the boat is absolutely amazing for my guests, you’ll have so much space! Normally they have twelve passengers on a ‘wildlife viewing’ trip and six photographers on a dedicated ‘photo special’.
The Afternoon will be spent searching and hopefully photographing otters.
Day 4: Wednesday
A repeat of Monday, all day in search of Otters. As you already know these are one of Andy's favourite species to spend time with, he loves their playful and elusive and secrative nature. When tracking otters we take a very slow, careful and considered approach , this is essential for two good reasons. One, being its less likely we disturb them and secondly its safer for us not to be dashing around like crazy people!
Andy has a sound knowledge of the locations otters habit on Mull, where they’re likely to be, and likely to go, this aids Andy on how to get his guests in the absolute best positions in the safest possible way.
You will learn the importance of being proactive in our approach and how this is key to being successful when photographing otters whilst causing minimum disturbance to the otters.
